K-5 Elementary Music Enrichment
Elementary Music provides students with a joyful, hands-on introduction to the world of music. Through singing, movement, games, dance, and instrument playing, students develop fundamental musical skills while exploring music from a variety of cultures and historical traditions. Students gain experience playing percussion instruments, ukuleles, and recorders, building rhythm, melody, and ensemble skills in a fun and engaging environment. Throughout the year, students have two performance opportunities to showcase their musical growth and celebrate their accomplishments with family and friends.
Middle School Music Enrichment
Choir gives students the opportunity to learn fundamental vocal and choral techniques in a fun, supportive, and engaging environment. Students explore a variety of traditional choral literature as well as contemporary and popular music while developing music literacy, performance skills, and confidence as singers. Throughout the year, choir members perform at several school events and have opportunities to participate in solos, small ensembles, and Honor Choir.
BOA Choir is a place where students who love to sing can contribute their unique talents, passion, and creativity as part of a collaborative ensemble while building friendships, confidence, and a lifelong appreciation for music.
Middle School Music Electives
Beginning Band is designed for students who want to learn a new instrument—no prior experience is required. Students develop the fundamentals of instrumental music in a fun, encouraging environment while making new friends and performing a variety of exciting music. Beginning Band performs in the Winter and Spring Concerts. Students may choose from flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, or percussion.
Advanced Band is for students who have at least one year of experience on their instrument and are ready to build on their skills. Students continue developing their musicianship through more challenging music while performing as part of a collaborative ensemble. In addition to the Winter and Spring Concerts, Advanced Band performs at a music festival each spring and proudly represents Blue Oak Academy in the Visalia Christmas Parade. This class provides students with the opportunity to grow as musicians, develop leadership and teamwork skills, and share their talents with the school and community.
