"Keep me away from the wisdom which does not cry, the philosophy which does not laugh,
and the greatness which does not bow before children." -Khalil Gibran
Somewhere along the line of her twelve years of teaching experience with VUSD, Mrs. Weeaks began to experience a paradigm shift as she watched, in wonder and awe, what was happening in her children’s Montessori preschool classrooms. Her new insights convicted her to pursue an avenue that would allow, understand, and encourage a constructivist philosophy of teaching. She was drawn to SVA because she realizes the how the SVA curriculum empower children. Mrs. Weeaks stands behind the assertion that children are our most precious untapped resource and enjoys their company immensely.
Having taught kindergarten, first, second, and sixth grade, and served as a BTSA (Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment) support provider mentoring beginning teachers, Mrs. Weeaks thrives in the role of encourager of students, parents, and peers.
Mrs. Weeaks has lived in Visalia since 1980. At Mt. Whitney High School, she played in the band and orchestra and was a founding member of their first-ever girls’ soccer team. After four years of varsity soccer, she received the All-American Award. A bucket list item of hers is to attend a World Cup soccer game. Mrs. Weeaks finds inspiration and can be deeply moved by the beauty she recognizes in nature, people, song lyrics, and quotes. She is an avid reader and Barnes & Noble is her “happy place.” She and her husband of seventeen years enjoy spending time at home swimming, reading, and just “being” with their two really great kids and one really cute dog. She loves the positive vibe of the SVA campus and is grateful and excited to be given the opportunity to be part of something great here at SVA.
